"I will help thee, saith the Lord." - ISA 41:14
This morning let us hear the Lord Jesus speak to each one of us: "I will help
thee." It is but a small thing for thy God, to help thee. Consider what He has done
already.
What! not help thee? Why, Christ bought thee with His blood! What! not help thee?
Christ died for thee; and if He has done the greater, will He not do the lessor? Help
thee! It is the least thing He will ever do for thee; He has done more, and will do more.
Before the world began He chose thee. He made the covenant for thee. He laid aside His
glory and became a man for thee; He gave up His life for thee; and if He did all this, He
will surely help thee now.
In helping thee, He is giving thee what He has purchased for thee at the price of His
own life. If you had need of a thousand times as much help, He would give it thee; your
requests are little compared with what He is ready to give. Its much for you to
need, but it is nothing for Him to bestow.
"Help thee?"
Fear not! If there were an ant at the door of your granary asking for help, it would
not ruin you to give him a single kernel of your wheat. By comparison your needs are as
nothing at the door of the all-sufficiency of the Great "I AM", who says,
"I will help thee."
O my soul, is not this enough? Do you need more strength than the omnipotence of the
United Trinity? Do you want more wisdom than exists in the Father, more love than displays
itself in the gift of His Son and the sacrifice of the Son, or more power than is manifest
in the influences of the Spirit?
Bring hither thine empty pitcher! Surely this well will fill it. Haste, gather up thy
wants, and bring them herethine emptiness, thy woes, thy needs. Behold, this river
of God is full for thy supply; what canst thou desire beside? Go forth, my soul, in this
thy might. The Eternal God is thine helper! Amen.
"Fear not, I am with thee, oh, be not dismayd!
I, I am thy God, and will still give thee aid."
C. H. Spurgeon, Morning by Morning, January 16.
Pensive, doubting, fearful heart,
Hear what Christ the Saviour says;
Every word should joy impart,
Change thy mourning into praise.
Yes, he speaks, and speaks to thee,
May he help thee to believe;
Then thou presently wilt see
Thou hast little cause to grieve:
"Fear thou not, nor be ashamed;
All thy sorrows soon shall end,
I, who heaven and earth have framed,
Am thy Husband and thy Friend;
I, the High and Holy One,
Isreals God, by all adored,
As thy Saviour will be known,
They Redeemer and thy Lord.
"For a moment I withdrew,
And thy heart was filled with pain;
But my mercies Ill renew;
Thou shalt soon rejoice again;
Though I seem to hide my face,
Very soon my wrath shall cease;
Tis but for moments space,
Ending in eternal peace.
"Though afflicted, tempest-tossed,
Comfortless awhile thou art,
Do not think thou canst be lost,
Thou graven on my heart;
All thy wastes I will repair;
Thou shalt be rebuilt anew;
And in thee it shall appear
What the God of love can do."
