"...he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto
God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them," HEB 7:25.
Christ interceded for His church here upon earth, and especially just before He stepped
into death to appease the Father's wrath for His bride as recorded in JOH 17:1-26.
However, He "...was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our
justification."
As the advocate for His bride, our Saviour now "ever liveth to make intercession
for them." As long as we remain in these tabernacles of clay we all offend in many
things, but our blessed representative appears before the courts of heaven in His exalted
state as KING of kingsas well as our Great High Priest to intercede.
1JO 2:1 says. "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.
And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."
As our Heavenly High Priest and King-- the Lord Jesus Christ intercedes for His
bride with a vested interest, obtained by the price He paid for her redemption. JOH
17:9-10 says, "I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou
hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am
glorified in them."
The comfort and glory Christ prays for Himself-He also ministers unto His bride
which has become ONE with Him. JOH 17:20-23 "Neither pray I for these alone, but for
them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou,
Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may
believe that thou hast sent me."
Consequently, our blessed Lord and Intercessor prays for His own vested interest
in His bride as well as for her-inasmuch as His own glory, the glory of the Father, and
the glory Holy Spirit are connected with the ultimate glory of every believer. He goes on
to pray, "And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one,
even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and
that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved
me."
Christ's intercession is for that spiritual oneness of Spirit, or mental
disposition as we bow to His Kingly Scepter. Our Saviour says to you and I, "If
ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the
world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for
he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you," JOH 14:15-16.
This oneness which we have is not limited to the Holy Spirit dwelling in us-but the
KING of kings Himself! ROM 8:10-11 says, "And if Christ be in you, the body is
dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of
him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the
dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you."
See the blessed reasoning that accompanies the glorious privilege of Christ's
intercession, and His dwelling in youThe Spirit of Christ's self-sacrificial love
automatically accompanies it.
Amen.
Jesus, my great High Priest offered His blood and died;
My guilty conscience seeks no sacrifice beside.
His pow'rful blood did once atone,
And now it pleads before the Throne.
To this dear Surety's hand will I commit my cause;
He answers and fulfills His Father's broken laws.
Behold my soul at freedom set;
My Surety paid the dreadful debt.
My Advocate appears for my defense on high;
The Father bows his ears and lays His thunder by.
Not all that hell or sin can say
Shall turn His heart, His love, away.
Should all the hosts of death and pw'rs of hell unknown
Put their most dreadful forms of rage and mischief on,
I shall be safe, for Christ displays
His conquering pow'r and guardian grace.
