Christ, the Covenant Promise
I will give thee for a covenant of the people, Isaiah 49:8 The Person of the Lord Jesus Christ is the sum and substance of the covenant; He is the unspeakable Gift the Father covenanted to send into the world. The Apostle Paul exclaimed in 2CO 9:15, "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift." This unspeakable Gift is the property of every believer. Believer, can you estimate what the value of such an unspeakable token of the Father's love is that He should give His only begotten Son as a ransom for your soul? "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life," JOH 3:16. Oh, beloved believer, who can fathom the depth of such love? Of Christ we read, "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power," COL 2:9-10. Think of the consolation to know that God in all His Divine attributes has set His love upon every one who truly believes in the Son of His love! "Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee," TIT 2:14-15. None who believe in His Son shall ever perish because He has power to save you from the power of sin. In telling Joseph why Mary, his espoused wife was with Child of the Holy Spirit, the angle also told him the very purpose of the Father's giving of His unspeakable Gift! "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins," MAT 1:21. Christ's perfect obedience in our human nature was the Father's greatest delight. Christ "...made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross," PHI 2:7-8. The Father was so pleased with such perfect, humble obedience of His Son as the substitute for all believers--that He gave Him all authority in heaven and earth as His reward. "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name [of authority] which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father," PHI 2:9-11. It is with such almighty authority that our loving Saviour beckons unto you and I saying, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light," MAT 11:28-30. Amen. I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice, |
