GOSPEL LIGHT
"And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness," Genesis 1:4 The text before us reveals God's first act of creation, i.e., "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light," GEN 1:3 This teaches us God's ordained way in which He also effects the new creation spoken of in EPH 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." The evidence of this new creation "in Christ Jesus" is revealed in our attitudes and actions toward God's perfect will, and our fellow man. As we begin our "God ordained" calling, walking in the light of the Word of God we will come to a true gospel repentance, which must come before salvation. The effect of this light is what we read of in EPH 4:21-24. "If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." The Light of the Word condemns those who are outside of Christ. See what our Saviour said in JOH 3:19-20. "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." The very next verse tells us the effect of the new creation "in Christ Jesus unto good works." V:21 says, "But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." When the Holy Spirit grants spiritual eyesight to behold the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ, we behold sin in its true colors. Then we begin to understand the atonement of Christ that reveals God's wrath with sin. Oh, what an eternal wonder there is found in the love of the Father that He would give His only begotten Son as a ransom for hell-deserving sinners. Our text reveals there is no communion between Light and darkness: God has divided them, let us not try to confound them. Sons of Light cannot have fellowship with deeds of darkness. God's Word teaches us in 1JO 2:9-11, "He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes." In judgment, in action, in hearing, in teaching, in association, we must discern between the light and darkness, and maintain the great distinction that the Lord made upon the world's first day. O Lord Jesus, be Thou our light throughout the whole of this day, for Thy light is the light of men. Amen. The Lord is the path of the just, |
