JESUS CHRIST IS LORD

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father, PHI 2:11.

The word "Lord," used in our text is taken from the Greek word "Kurios," which means: "Supreme in authority, i.e. controller; (as a respectful title): God, Lord, Master."

I do not ask you if you have accepted Jesus as your Saviour, but is Jesus Christ your LORD? Is Jesus Christ the Supreme Authority in your heart? If you claim Jesus as your Saviour, and do not serve Him as Lord, "Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God," ACT 8:21.

 When we have been saved by grace, EPH 2:1-10, our rebellion and the power of sin are broken, and we delight to serve Jesus as Lord. That is when we can understand the Words of our Saviour in MAT 11:29-30, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

In that great day when our Saviour makes up His jewels, "Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not," MAL 3:18.

Some make sure everyone knows their doctrinal position, but then act as if there is no grace in their hearts, grieving the Holy Spirit with their bad attitudes and unholy ways, EPH 4:30-31.

Oh, beloved, pray much for a tender conscience. Pray for a conscience as susceptible to the least sin, as the eye is to the least touch. Never rest if you feel guilt there, however small, until it has been removed by a fresh application of the precious blood of Christ. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness," 1JO 1:9.

 When we have learned to know Jesus Christ as Lord, we shall walk in the footsteps of the flock. The apostle Paul points to our walk and conversation as our evidence of salvation in PHI 3:18- 19, "For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things."

This minding earthly things is revealed by the conversation: Paul said in v.20, "For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ."

Oh, beloved, if we learn to understand things that have eternal value, our covetous hearts will melt before the Lordship of our precious Saviour. HEB 13:5 says, "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." "NEVER."!! "I will NEVER leave thee, nor forsake thee"!!! Let every believer grasp these words, and store then up in his heart.

When the Holy Spirit whispers such precious words into our souls we can say with David in PSA 23:4-6, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." Amen.

His wide dominion shall extend
From sea to utmost sea,
And unto earth’s remotest bonds
His peaceful rule shall be.

The poor and needy He shall spare,
And save their souls from fear;
He shall redeem them from all wrong,
Their life to Him is dear.
