#113

LUK 2:7-10 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

>>Our text says, they laid Jesus "...in a manger; because their was no room for then in the inn."

>>We often must, find their is no room for us among those who hold the honours of this world to follow the foot steps of Christ.

>>This is such a rebuke, to those who would esteem men by their station in life, and earthly surroundings.

>>It is also, very important we notice it was not those who could find place in the inn who received the glorious message of our Saviour's arrival.

LUK 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

>>There was room for Jesus in the hearts of these shepherds!

LUK 2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

>>So why was Jesus born in a manger instead of an inn?

MAT 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

>>Only those who have a childlike faith will ever truly enter the kingdom, i.e., the service of the Lord.

MAT 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

>>Our text says LUK 2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

>>This glory of the Lord is the light of our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.

REV 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

>>Jesus was prophesied to be the light of the world in, LUK 1:78-79 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

>>The Lord had told old Simeon that he should not taste of death until he had seen that light.

LUK 2:30-32 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

>>Jesus told us in JOH 8:12 I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

>>Our text tells us what was the shepherds first reaction to that light.

LUK 2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

>>The light reveals the corruption of sin in the heart.

EPH 5:13-14 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

>>The light drives away those who want to hide their sin

GEN 3:7-8 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

>>Jesus said in JOH 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

>>The first effect of that light is to reveal the darkness in the heart

>>Jesus said in JOH 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

>>God commands the light to separate between the righteous and the unrighteous.

2CO 4:6-7 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

>>That light draws God's people unto Him that their deeds may be made manifest.

>>Jesus said unto the woman of Samaria in JOH 4:16-18 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

>>The blessed affect of that light was

JOH 4:28-29 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

>>David said in PSA 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

>>Jesus said, JOH 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

>>If we understand that language of David, we shall not fear to enter that heavenly city where Jesus is the light thereof.

REV 6:16 Tells us that every person who did not come unto the light in this life say, "...to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne."

>>If we have not come unto the light in this life, how shall we ever enter heaven?

REV 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

><>>The wonder of wonders is contained in the name of Jesus

MAT 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

>>The fear of the shepherds was removed when the heavenly host said.

LUK 2:10-11 Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

>>The blessedness of this message is that a Saviour has been born to save His people from their sins.

>>Believing in that Saviour must become a personal matter.

JOH 12:36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.
